The Plum Black Amber is a compact, heavy cropping variety that produces dark skinned fruit with soft, sweet, and juicy flesh, perfect for snacking or making jams and puddings. Grafted onto a dwarf rootstock, this plum variety is ideal for small gardens, allowing you to grow your own fruit even in limited spaces. For best results, plant it in a 60cm (2ft) diameter container with quality compost like John Innes No. 3 or in well drained soil in a sheltered sunny position. Pruning begins immediately after planting remove the central stem to encourage side branch growth, and prune main branches for the first three years. From the fourth year, trim sub branches to maintain the trees shape. This tree thrives in full sun and will reach up to 1m in height and 45cm in spread when fully established, making it a great choice for compact gardens. Supplied as a 9cm potted plant, it is perfect for growing your own delicious plums.
