Lettuce ‘Kyrio’ produces good-sized loose heads of thick, tasty leaves that retain freshness after picking. This easy-to-grow variety tolerates hot weather, resists bolting and shows good disease resistance, including resistance to downy mildew. Quick-growing with a long cropping season, sow successionally from March to July for harvests from May to September. Sow indoors: sow thinly 1 cm deep in clean trays or modules of firm, pre-watered compost, place in warmth (10–15°C) and keep moist. Plant out after the risk of frost has passed, spacing plants 25 cm apart with 30 cm between rows when seedlings have 3–4 true leaves. Sow outdoors: sow thinly 1 cm deep in the final position, keep soil moist and thin to 25 cm apart. Keep well watered and use netting to protect from birds and insects; small sowings every three weeks will ensure a continuous supply.
